Holy Cross Sunday School

Sunday School is truly at the center of our Orthodox Faith. The primary objective of the Sunday School of Holy Cross is to convey, to transmit, to teach our Orthodox Faith in all of its richness, in all of its splendor, in all of its symbolism to our children and youth. We desire to make Christ alive in them.

Under the supervision of Father Nikolaos Kouvaris classes are held every Sunday for children in nursery through ninth grade, promptly at 10:00 am - 12:00 noon. Many of these classes are taught by Holy Cross Sunday School “alumni”, young adults who volunteer their time to teach the younger generation.

The students of our Sunday School present a Christmas play, a Mother’s Day Celebration, and they take part in the Easter Ceremonies of Holy Friday and Holy Saturday. They also participate in a contest given by the Archdiocese of America for St. John the Chrysostom (Oratorical Festival). Other activities include fundraisers such as Godparents’ Sunday, selling chocolate Easter bunnies, and Christmas caroling.

Taking part in our Sunday School gives us the opportunity to learn about our religion, to strengthen our faith and to live according to our beliefs.
